- Scientific Research: We will begin the year with how to do scientific research, observations, and write lab reports. Safety during an experiment or during a demonstration in the classroom is a priority. Students are required to have a responsible and positive attitude towards safety.
- Evolution by natural selection provides an explanation for the diversity and survival of living things. Students will also look at and study some ecosystems in order to make informed, ethical decisions about conservation.
- Elements consist of one type of atom, and compounds consist of atoms of different elements chemically combined.
- The electromagnetic force produces both electricity and magnetism.
- Earth and its climate have changed over geological time.

Supplies:
- KLO students are asked to have one binder divided into sections. One section of the binder will be allocated to Science. It will need lined paper.
- The school agenda (provided FREE of charge at the beginning of the year) needs to be attached inside of the student binder.
- Each student needs HB pencils and a good eraser. Much of the student’s work in Science will be done in pencil, but a blue or black pen is also required for lab reports. Students will need pencil crayons and/or felt markers for lab completion, graphs, etc.
- A metric ruler is needed for each class as it is used for underlining, graphing, and measurement.
- Science textbooks and work sheets will be issued, and may vary depending upon the unit being studied. Students are responsible for maintaining these texts and work sheets. The Science textbook will be kept in the classroom as there is only one class set.

- Homework is checked on a regular basis. Students who do not complete their homework for the required deadlines miss the corrections, the discussion, and the marks that go with that assignment.
- When students are absent, they need to find out what was missed before coming to the next class. They can check with one of their homework buddies or check the homework board in the classroom first thing in the morning. This will impact particularly on lab experiments or demonstrations. If a student is absent for a lab, s/he needs to see me to set up a time to complete the work.
- Students need to be ready to begin class when the 2nd bell rings. The binder should be open, with that day’s homework assignment ready for correction when written assignment was given.
- Extra help is available most mornings, at lunch and after school. Please let me know if you need extra help so that I can be sure to be in my classroom for you.
- There will be retests only on special circumstances. Students are expected to be ready for tests, quizzes, and pop quizzes at any time. Students need to study regularly.
- French is the language of study in our classroom. Students are required to speak in French at all times.
- Parents, please check your child’s binder and agenda on a regular basis to monitor homework completion, organization, neatness and also to check the required supplies for class. The agenda could also be used for communication with parent/teacher. This is the student responsibility to show the note that is being sent a.s.a.p.
